When your Shreveport home needs a panel upgrade

A lot of homes in Broadmoor, South Highlands, and the older Bossier neighborhoods still run on 100-amp panels from the 1960s and 1970s. That was plenty of capacity when the house had a window unit and an electric range — it is not enough for today's 4-ton central AC, electric dryer, electric water heater, dishwasher, microwave, EV charger, and a kitchen full of countertop appliances. Symptoms include breakers that trip when two large loads run at once, lights that dim when the AC kicks on, scorched breaker faces, and a panel that's simply full with no room for another circuit.

Ed's Electric upgrades most residential services from 100A or 150A to a 200A panel in a single day. The job includes a new main breaker, a new panel and bus, a new meter base if the existing one is damaged or out-of-spec, code-required whole-home surge protection (NEC 230.67), a new ground rod and bonding to incoming water, and re-termination of every branch circuit. We pull the permit with the City of Shreveport (or Bossier City / Caddo / Bossier Parish, depending on where you are), coordinate the SWEPCO disconnect and reconnect, and meet the inspector on site.

Some panels need to be replaced regardless of size. Federal Pacific Stab-Lok and Zinsco panels are known to fail to trip during a fault — they're the single most common reason an insurance company will refuse to write or renew a homeowner's policy in this region. If you have one of these, or any panel with rust, double-tapped breakers, aluminum branch wiring, or a "split-bus" design, we'll inspect it for free and give you a written quote.
